Sleep Matters: Design Tips for Bedding
In life, sleep matters. The average person spends 27 years of their life sleeping – and up to 7 years trying to fall asleep!
In design, the quality and style of your bedding also matters. Your bed is where you begin and end every day of your life. In this blog, the Design Connection, Inc. team showcases our favorite bedding from our favorite projects and suppliers. Read on to see our design tips for beautiful bedlinens and restful sleep!
Colors of the Year
High-quality bedding is a must-have for a bedroom remodel or refresh. Bedding is a wonderful way to infuse a bedroom with a dash of color. This beautiful Eastern Accents ensemble combines crisp white sheets with dove gray and pale yellow – totally on point with Pantone’s Colors of the year!

Here’s another Eastern Accents collection, Twin Palms, from one of Design Connection, Inc.’s current projects. The yellow-gold and blue-gray color palette is both refreshing and relaxing – perfect for a bedroom!

Design Tip: Bedding that pills, curls or unravels is no bargain. Choose well-designed and well-made craftmanship over cheaply made and lower-priced options.
Textures and Sheen
Another high-quality, high-impact bedding ensemble. This Ann Gish set features a fabulous blend of fabrics! Leather, velvet, and nubby weaves showcase the texture and sheen of the duvet and matching pillows.

Cool and Fresh
White with a cool, serene blue – what could be more inviting? Paired with a pearly-hued headboard and neutral bench at the foot of the bed, this Eastern Accents ensemble beckons for relaxation!

Design Tip: Opt for 100% cotton sheets and a thread count of 300 to 400 or higher. Thread count refers to the number of horizontal and vertical threads per square inch in a sheet. High thread count sheets are softer, create a more comfortable sleeping environment and retain their good looks longer. A lower-thread count sheet will likely fuzz or pill after just a few washings.
Beautiful – and Washable
The best of both worlds, this stunning Ann Gish set with applique detailed pillows is also low maintenance! High quality, machine washable fabrics in a neutral color palette work best for our clients who want high style that is also easy care.

Custom Looks in Linen
Many of our clients appreciate one-of-a-kind, custom bedding. The concept for this master bedroom is elegant and sleek, but also feminine. These gorgeous linen embroidered pillow covers and coverlet introduce a sophisticated floral element to the bedroom.

Design Tip: Replace your Pillow
A test to know if it’s time to replace your pillow is to place it over your arm – if it droops, it’s time for a new one. For pillows, purchase inexpensive pillows for a decorative, layered effect and buy quality ones for your good night’s rest.
Sleek and Sophisticated: Layered Neutrals
From the tufted leather headboard to the pared-down silhouette of the duvet, the bedding in this room exudes citified comfort. To create drama and interest, we layered neutral tones, pattern and textures. The smooth headboard in taupe creates contrast with the quilted texture of the ivory duvet. Custom pillows, layered from ivory to taupe, continue the tonal theme.

Feminine Elegance Meets Spa Serenity
This soft and pretty bedding demonstrates tranquil feminine style. We chose aqua and cream for the room’s color palette. The aqua walls blend seamlessly with custom bedding in cream, beige and aqua hues. Chenille and linen pillows add texture and warmth. A traditional tufted bench at the end of the bed adds a finishing touch.

Guest Bedroom 1: Breezy Coastal Style
A guest bedroom is the perfect space for a coastal feel! This room features vivid blue walls that evoke a day at the shore. We paired bright white linens with a paisley duvet in an equally vibrant blue – a designer find at a retail bedding store. Sweet dreams guaranteed!

Guest Bedroom 2: Khaki with a Pop of Lime
This guest bedroom is built around a calming khaki color palette. We added ready-made bedding in lime green with black accents and custom pattered pillows in lime. The headboard in an oatmeal linen fabric with wood trim in a deep ebony tone creates a focal point for the room.

Design Tip: Guest bedrooms are ideal for exploring colors and patterns. Look for high-quality, ready made bedding in classic patterns that feel timeless, in colors that feel fresh.
