Blue is a much-loved color all over the world!

Dulux paints recently conducted a survey that demonstrates this fact: shades of blue are the favorite color for a majority of people.

It’s also a color that Design Connection, Inc., often incorporates into our clients’ home transformations. Blue is timeless and sophisticated, and plays well with a range of neutrals, from grays and taupes to creams and shades of tan and brown.

In this blog, we’ll provide tips for incorporating blues with patterns, and textures, and show you examples from the Design Connection, Inc. client portfolio.

Create A Palette

To create a blue color palette for fabrics, we begin with a base color, like this deep marine blue. All colors have a range of tones, from warm to cool. We add layers of interest and depth with complimentary patterns in the same tonal family.

The bold pattern of this accent pillow in cool blue tones blends beautifully with these related fabrics in cool tones.

Blue Patterns Play Well Together

For our client’s home transformation, Design Connection, Inc. blended tones of blue, in complimentary patterns and textures. This large-scale botanical print plays well with the unique, smaller-scale herringbone pattern and classic neutral linen fabrics.

Our client’s favorite color is blue, and the Design Connection. Inc. team gave her exactly the look she wanted! We used the tonal palette of cool, deep blue with taupes and creams. The large-scale print of the pillow doesn’t overwhelm the space –it provides the perfect balance the bold nail-head finish on the sofa.

Blue Tones and Textures for a Modern Feel

This client preferred a cool, contemporary color palette for their living room. Combining blues with grays in complimentary textures on the fireplace surround, sofa and ottoman give room a sleek and modern vibe. Furniture and floors in a rich brown finish add depth.

Blues in Living Color

A signature piece creates a signature statement! In this living room, the Design Connection Inc, team incorporated a chair and ottoman in a bold pattern blending cream and a soothing tone of blue. The tone-on-tone accent pillows on the sofa in deeper hues of blue balance the chair and give the room character.

Another example of refining and a defining a client’s space with a signature piece in blue! The rug provides the frame for this room with a large-scale pattern of blue and cream. The over-sized leather ottoman in a muted hue becomes a focal point for the room without overwhelming the space.

Handsome Blue in the Dining Room

With Arlene’s trained eye, Design Connection, Inc. gave this space a makeover with a gorgeous color palette of grays and blues. The deep navy tone is a handsome color, that coordinated flawlessly with tones of gray for this sophisticated dining room with timeless style!
