Lighting is one of the most important elements in setting the tone for your home.  In this blog, the Design Connection Inc. team gives you tips for choosing the right lighting for the right space.

Design Tip #1: Update your dining room with statement chandelier.

This client’s  dining room includes gallery-worthy modern art. We chose a bronze-toned pendant fixture to add sleek architectural lines and a modern ambiance to the room.

Design Tip #2: Gold metal fixtures add chic warmth to a gray color palette.

Gray neutral hues always work well with silver-toned lighting, but fixtures in a gold-toned finish are unexpected and sophisticated! The lines of this simple chandelier add grace and elegance to this room.

Design Tip #3: Create reflected light with glass, chrome and mirrors.

This fixture does more than provide a lighting source. It also amplifies the light in the room. In addition, its two-tiered glass and chrome structure reflects light from the dimensional mirrors flanking the wall.

Design Tip #4: Choose task lighting in multiples for style as well as function.

This kitchen is the perfect combination of practical and beautiful! The spiral brushed nickel pendants over the contrasting wood island provide a well-lit work space – and look gorgeous!

Another great example of high function, high style! Our client wanted a contemporary feel for their new-build home. Three square glass pendants work well with the recessed lighting, and echo the straight lines of the cabinetry and seating.

Design Tip #5: Think curves and swirls for eye-catching impact.

Curved fixtures add freshness and movement to a transitional design concept. In this dining room, the brushed nickel fixture is scaled for the size of the room. It also complements the space’s ample natural light.

What a great vibe for a great room! With the high ceilings and commanding space, this room called for a statement piece. This fixture’s ribbon-like spirals and gold-tone finish give this family gathering space dramatic flair. We love the movement it brings to this room!

Design Tip #6: Work With Natural Light Sources

For a sun room or living space with lots windows, use natural light to your advantage. In this room, the abundant light from multiple windows provides lots of light by day. Table lamps and the fireplace add a warm glow in the evening.

Bonus Tip: (Valentine Red) as an Accent Color

In fashion and design, red is bold and striking. It’s powerful and dramatic in small touches, as an accent color. Pops of red add style without overwhelming a room, and are fabulous with palettes of black and white, cream and grays.
