What a year 2015 has been for Design Connection, Inc.! While you may have seen some of our award winning interior design projects and designs featured in magazines, here are some of our favorite projects from 2015 that we have yet to share. Enjoy!

A true flashback to the 1970’s, this home was long overdue for a drastic update. Two words: Carpeted Bathroom

The accessories and furniture were carefully selected to reflect the new contemporary design in this whole-home project. Many of the accessories and finishing touches that made this space perfect were carefully selected from my trips to High Point Furniture Market in North Carolina.

The palette and the overall design reflect the clients’ desire for a more sophisticated, masculine space. See all of the Before & After pics of this project here.

Another one of my favorite projects this year was this much-needed master bathroom remodel. While the general design of the original bathroom wasn’t extremely dated, the carpet certainly was. Having carpet in areas with high humidity levels creates an ideal environment for mold. The carpet was promptly replaced with a heated floor using 12” x 24” textured tiles.

The clients are HUGE Kansas State fans. They requested that the school colors, purple and silver, be showcased in their new bathroom design. Purple glass mosaics in the built-in shampoo shelves as well as in the back splash above the Cambria Quartz countertops was the perfect solution to this design requirement. This whole-home project began in an unexpected way: A water leak that sprung while my clients were on vacation. This unfortunate event was an opportunity for me to give my clients a home that was beyond their expectations, from the lower-level man cave to the main level living room and kitchen.

I love the challenge of incorporating family heirlooms and older, cherished pieces into an entirely new design. See all of the Before & After pics from this whole-home project here.

Surrounded by lakes and marshlands, the endless windows and open floorplan allows for beautiful views from every seat, in every room. While leaving the windows open with uninhibited views was important to my clients, the rooms needed to be softened from the hard surfaces, dark woods, and metal accents. The transparent fabrics I chose for the windows have a see-through effect yet also add dimension and a bit of shine. My clients agreed, the Roman shade treatments are perfect!

Keeping in mind the immediate needs of this family and predicting how they will use their great room in the years to come, an upholstered ottoman was chosen in lieu of a traditional, hard surfaced coffee table. Most coffee tables require dedicated floor space; this comfy cushion on wheels is a safer choice for their wobbly-walkers and can easily be pushed around, rearranged, and used for additional seating. The leather swivel chairs balance the open kitchen and great room, pairing perfectly with the island seating and blending with the surrounding softer furniture pieces and window treatments. This basic builder-grade bathroom was transformed into a luxury master retreat. How did we do it? With a little bit of magic and a great design plan, that’s how! The existing master bathroom dated back to 2002; it was a great size and it worked well for my clients, but it was not the relaxing space they longed for. After years of collecting pictures, ideas, and bathroom designs they loved, they were ready to make a drastic change. Their wish list contained my favorite elements; spacious and elegant with a timeless, classic style.

The new 12 x 22 brick patterned Marca Corona Italian tile was chosen to wrap the bathroom and shower walls and paired perfectly with the crisp white 12×24 Caesar tiled floor. The Walker Zanger imported glass accent tile gives a dash of color and highlights the gorgeous new standalone bathtub. This elegant, relaxing, luxurious master bathroom fits my clients’ style perfectly. The bathroom isn’t the only space in this home that has been updated by Design Connection, Inc. You’ve got to check out their kitchen! See all of the Before & After pics in this multi-room home remodel here.
