An awkward-shaped room with uncomfortable furniture prompted these homeowners to call Design Connection, Inc.  for help. See how we transformed their home!

As an “lifer” interior designer, I have transformed over 500 homes, tackling just about every design dilemma imaginable. In this latest project, my clients needed help addressing the two focal points in their great room as well as the awkward shape of this space.

My clients had initially purchased furniture they liked through local retailers, but they found their new furnishings to be bulky and uncomfortable, and in turn, the room was rarely used.

Before FR

One of the first steps in our design process is to determine how you currently use your space. How do you live and move throughout your home on a daily basis? What will your future needs be? In this case, my clients wanted a design style that would stand the test of time and comfortable furnishings that would unify this awkward space. Here is great view of the layout from the second story of this space with the new furnishings provided by Design Connection, Inc.

Great Room

With insight on how this space will be used going forward, we created a space plan. As with all of our projects, from complex new construction builds to selecting new furnishings, like this project, a space plan is created. This to-scale floor plan allows us to account for every inch of space and ensures that the new furnishings are sized perfectly for each unique space.

With careful selection of fabrics, carpet and paint colors, we blended the colors from the open kitchen, creating a defined space with complimenting textures and colors that flow comfortably from room to room.
