Get Primal With Animal Prints-Awaken Your Home’s Wild Side!
Last week we talked about pet-friendly furnishings and interior designs with your pet in mind. Some of you were surprised that I did not once mention animal prints. I have seen animal prints in all shapes, sizes and temperaments. From cute zebra print bedroom rugs and innocent giraffe-patterned picture frames to an over-the-top Wild Kingdom themed living room, complete with a “Sounds of the Rainforest” soundtrack. I’ve been a certified interior designer for over 35 years. Trust me. I’ve seen it all.
The Design Team at Design Connection, Inc. is here to show you how to free your wild side out without allowing the “animal printed beast” to run amok in your home. We’ll start off slow, with small, fuzzy baby animal steps.
Accessories are the easiest way to make a statement in your space without a making a major commitment to a particular style or color palate. Animal throw pillows are a fun way to add a splash of color and a pop of pattern to an otherwise neutral space.
If you haven’t quite tamed to the idea of adding wild animal prints into your home’s design, consider an innocent faux zebra hide rug. Like throw pillows, the location of this flexible accessory can change from room to room, season to season, or however the mood strikes you.

Animal prints are no longer held captive by the confines of fabrics. In this day and age of affordable custom furnishings and interior designs, if you can envision it, we can create it! The Interior Designers at Design Connection, Inc. are well known in the Kansas City and Overland Park area for having exclusive access to the best faux painters in the industry. Faux painted Alligator gives any piece of wood a masculine, somewhat dangerous look.

For a kitchen that is totally unique to you and your wild style; Fax Alligator has taken inspiration from the travel trunks and credenzas of their past and have crept their way into the kitchen. The entire kitchen. With granite still dominating the world of kitchen countertops, with Quartz and recycled materials close behind, it is a breath of fresh faux-alligator hide to see this inventive material used as a countertop.

Custom Mosaic tile is another way to let your inner interior designer roar without giving the impression that you spend too much time at the zoo. This mosaic tile Zebra patterned “rug” from Ravenna Mosaics is sure to be a conversation piece in any powder room.

We’ve seen animal print on just about every fabric, on just about every surface and just about every body type ever made. We’ve seen mosaic “rugs”; but, have you seen entire floors dedicated to the animal print of your desire? And I’m NOT talking carpet! Ceramic tiles are no exception to custom designs. Check out this tiger striped ceramic tile: It’s shine is so hypnotizing, even the wildest of cats will purr like a kitten.
