Halloween Home Decor Tricks and Treats
It IS possible to celebrate Halloween without turning your home into a haunted house. If cobwebs and skeletons aren’t your thing, check out these tricks that will give your home décor a sweet Halloween treat.
It was recently brought to my attention that I have turned into a Halloween Scrooge.
Have I?
I argued my case and lost, as my grown children quickly pointed out that I have not a spider, witch, bat or even a pumpkin in sight.
It’s normal for me as an interior designer to display accessories and decorations that mark the seasons and the holidays. ALL of the holidays. What happened? I love Halloween! When did I stop celebrating? As our kids get older, it’s all too easy to let the fun and creative aspects of Halloween slip away. I was going to write this week’s blog about a gorgeous staircase build I recently designed, but that will have to wait; there is Halloween fun to be had!

Halloween is the ultimate Do-It-Yourself holiday. DIY costumes, DIY pumpkins and DIY decorations. I have one requirement when it comes to DIY. The project must be EASY and it must be FAST. After spending (way too much) time scouring Pinterest, I’d like to share with you some of my favorite finds.

Black and white pumpkins put a classy, modern spin on the traditional fall decor pumpkin display. Bats cut from poster board and a few pieces of tape will instantly Halloween-ify your home. Simply peel off the bats when Halloween is over and enjoy your classy fall-themed pumpkins through November.

While you’re cutting out the poster board bats for your pumpkin display, cut a few extra for a wall display. Taping a few sneaky bats flying in through a window can easily show your love for Halloween without dominating your home’s décor.

With the fireplace as the focal point in the room, a fun mantel display can give the entire room that Halloween flare. For those of us who call Kansas City our home, we are blessed with an extended Indian Summer and rarely use our fireplaces in October. Put your fireplace to work early this year and catch that Wicked Witch of the Midwest!

While there aren’t really rules for Halloween decorating, if you want an elegant look, keep it simple. A little pumpkin can go a long way!

These super cute no-carve animal print pumpkins look like the work of an inspired artist. You can achieve this look, too, with these three all-too-easy words: Patterned Duct Tape!

Place colorful no-carve candy corn pumpkins around your home or front yard for a fun display this Halloween. Choose cone-shape pumpkins and clean their surfaces, cover the stems with painter’s tape and spray paint to achieve the candy corn look.

While you’ve got the white, orange and yellow paint handy from your candy corn pumpkin creations, grab some old wine bottles and give them a festive Halloween makeover, too.

A couple scoops and scrapes of your pumpkins, some creative hole-punching with a power drill and a strand of white Christmas lights will add some elegance to your front porch pumpkin display with these DIY Light Bright Pumpkins.
I’ve got even more creative ways to incorporate the fun of Halloween in your home decor. From pumpkin creations to fun and unique crafty autumn projects, we’ve got you covered! Whether you are a skilled DIY-er or an inexperienced artist, we’ve got a library full of fall and Halloween decor ideas that will have you pinning, posting, sharing and creating.
