Spring 2014 Interior Design Trends: Breath of Fresh Air
We recently had a little taste of springtime here in Kansas City. Being out and about on projects all week, I’ve come to the conclusion that the entire KC Metro has a case of Spring Fever. Me included! When we had the windows open and the breeze flowing through the house it reminded me of the Benjamin Moore 2014 Color of the Year, “Breath of Fresh Air”.
Although Breath of Fresh Air was announced back in October, it was overshadowed by the uproar caused by Pantone’s Color of the Year, bold and dramatic “Radiant Orchid”. Benjamin Moore has taken a turn in the opposite direction with a collection that is soft, rich, calming and agreeable.
Hailed as the new neutral, Breath of Fresh Air is a paint that lives up to its name. I can tell you first hand, when I walked into a room that had been painted this color, it was magical. I was overcome with a sense of calmness. Even after over 30 years as an interior designer, it still surprises me when I find my mood being affected by color.
As you can see by the above photos, this color works phenomenally as the main wall color in bathrooms. It lends an immediate spa and Zen-like feeling to these spaces, which is exactly why this relaxing hue will compliment any room! If you long to brighten up your kitchen, put your yellow paint swatches away and give blue a chance.
This soft and calming blue neutral can stand on its own or work harmoniously with darker colors. If you’re not sure how to incorporate these colors into your space, Benjamin Moore made it easy by designing a palette of 23 colors that, when combined, can flow seamlessly one room to the next.
