High Point Market is like Disney World for interior designers. Every April, I eagerly travel to the Spring High Point Furniture Market and gather the latest and greatest interior design styles and home décor trends. Seasons change. Styles change. Plans change. My bags were packed and I was ready to go. And so was my gall bladder. Instead of hopping a plane and flying to the happiest place on earth, I was hopping into the hospital and flying into surgery. What could I do? Spend a few days in bed with my iPad and follow all of the High Point Market chatter? You know I did! Here are a few of my favorite designs and trends that I picked up along my High Point Market social media journey.

Brass and Gold

Brass and gold really came to life as a perfect pairing to last year’s Pantone Color of the Year, Emerald. This year we are seeing even more brass and gold; not only as an accent color, but as stand out pieces that take the center stage. And rightfully so!

I fell in love with Bernhardt Furniture at High Point Market last fall. All of their furniture designs just hit the spot and people were starting to take notice. Well, you couldn’t not notice them this time around! This bedroom display is very shiny and pretty, but it’s equally masculine and strong. The finishing touches that tie this space together are the nail head embellishments on the contrasting ottoman and chest.

Greek Key

Greek Key, or Greek Fret, is a decorative border constructed from a continuous line, shaped into a repeated motif. Greek Key designs are starting to pop up everywhere, from upholstery trims to coffee tables. Royal blues paired with red and gold are also turning heads this season. Most of my favorite Greek Key designs featured these colors.

Hair on Hide

This trend has also gained momentum in the last year. If you can upholster it, you can slap a hide on it. Hair on hide is showing up on bar stools, poofs, ottomans and formal dining chairs. It was the newly emerging. Pila Designs that caught my eye with their unexpected pairing of hair on hide chairs with Lucite frames.  They offer a great selection from dyed over brights to natural and spotted hair on hides. I certainly want to see what they showcase in the fall!

Lucite

As you can see by the hair on hide chairs above, Lucite initially gives off a modern feel, yet it blends in perfectly with designs that are anything but modern—and showcases them at the same time! The window box Lucite table top and the art by Mitchell Black are my favorite Lucite finds this season. These vintage etchings were screen printed in modern colors and appear to be floating in their Lucite frames.

Chinoiserie

Chinoiserie is a style of decor that reflects Chinese inspired designs. Chinoiserie has been in style since the 17th Century and it will always be in style. The trend that is currently emerging is Chinese inspired patterns, fabrics and upholstery. Taking a cue from trendsetters like CR Laine who showcased Greek Key fretwork last fall, I predict we will see more of Chinoiserie looks like these in the coming months.
