Very Pinteresting: Our Top Interior Design & Home Décor Pins from 2014
While we have been so busy this year at Design Connection, Inc., you have been busy, too, pinning and sharing our interior designs and Pinterest finds. I am blown away by how popular our Pinterest page has become! As the local go-to in Kansas City for interior design inspiration and advice, we’d like to share with you our Most Popular Interior Design & Home Décor Pins from 2014.
Bernhardt Furniture seems to ALWAYS make it on my Favorite Finds at High Point Market list each spring and fall. The perfect mix of masculine and feminine, the Kashmir bed and Amboise silver leaf three drawer chest bedroom is one of our most shared images this year.

I have seen this picture shared daily, not only on Pinterest, but on every social media outlet. “One day I can afford a geode wall like this” seems to be a common theme when people are sharing and commenting on this pic. An entire wall of geode, agate or marble is a bold look–with an equally bold price tag. But, thanks to the brilliant designs of Alex Turco and the incredible invention of the Waterproof Art Panel, you can splash your shower wall with this very realistic looking faux rock at a fraction of the cost. These Waterproof Art Panels are designed to withstand extreme environments, from the shower wall to your home’s exterior.

That’s right-it’s a FAKE! So move this picture to from your “Dream Home” board to your “In-My-Near-Future Home” board. To see more of Alex Turco’s geode wall panels, read our blog, “Home Décor Trends: How Agate & Geode Can Rock Your Home’s Interior”.
With resources like Houzz and Pinterest at our fingertips, you may already have Ideabooks and Boards full of ideas for your dream home. But creating your dream kitchen is so much more than selecting soft-close cabinets, ideal appliances and your favorite countertops! Great design is all about the details, especially in a hardworking room like the kitchen. No matter how much counter space we have in our kitchens, there are times when we wish we had more. I love that this cart can be wheeled throughout the kitchen to give multiple cooks room for meal prep and table staging. You guys loved it, too, pinning this pic to the top of our list. If you are planning to update, renovate or remodel your kitchen, don’t let little conveniences become an afterthought in your design-check out our “Dream Kitchen Must-Haves” blog and get to pinning and planning the kitchen of your dreams!

Cabinets are among the most expensive items in most kitchen remodels. In many of our kitchen updates, we help the cabinets reach their full potential without costing a fortune by changing the color with a quality faux finish. It’s amazing what you can achieve with that basic design staple: paint. Seeing as Pinterest is a mecca for DIY projects, its no surprise that this picture is one of our most pinned!

If you are living in cramped quarters, the plethora of organization, storage tips and multifunctional furniture ideas available on Pinterest can be a sanity-saver. This Pin from our “Dorm Room Décor & Design Tips” blog has made our Top Pins of 2014 list. If lofting your bed is not an option, use bed risers to free up that much needed under-bed storage space. While most bed risers will give you an extra 5”, these Power Bed Risers from Bed, Bath & Beyond not only lift your bed an extra 8”, they provide you with a pair of both grounded outlets and USB outlets.

Making great use of space is key in all of our projects at Design Connection, Inc. This attic space-turned master walk-in closet was one of the top pinned pics from our portfolio. While this attic space was adjoined to the master suite and not located above, it still served as inspiration for many to transform their unfinished attics into a useable space.

Wouldn’t it be great if we had a space in our home that we could go to, to just get away from it all? A secret spot? It is right of passage as a child to build forts and hide out in secret lairs. As adults, we still need that. We still need a place to retreat to; a sanctuary within our homes. For many of us, and my Pinterest followers, the dream of having a hidden room or a secret passage is still alive. Our blog, “Top Secret Spaces, Hideouts & Lairs. Shhhhh!” was wildly popular, earning this pic a top spot on our list. Who would ever suspect a hidden room off of the kitchen? No one! What is back there, anyway? A wine room? A luxurious sauna? A secret staircase to Batman’s underground lair?

This little nook-office at the end of the kitchen is just that: a nook. So, what makes this this pin so popular? It is a realistic, feasible solution for many of us that are short on space. Having a room reserved exclusively for your home office is ideal, but not always attainable. If creating an addition to your home is out of the question, you shouldn’t have to wait until the kids go off to college to make your home office dreams come true.
