Your Home for the Holidays: Decorating Tips
It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
Here at Design Connection, Inc., the lyrics to this popular holiday song sum up our feelings about the coming holiday season.
Clients often ask us for advice on how to get their homes ready for the holiday season. So the Design Connection, Inc. team recently sat down to share our top tips with you to make your holiday home the most wonderful space of the year!
The holiday feeling starts at your own front door. We love this traditional wreath of neutral tones and seasonal greens, flanked by coordinating swags.
This three-part message is a lighthearted way to dress up your front door and welcome friends and family into your holiday home.
Trees: Real or Artificial?
The Design Connection, Inc. team are fans of both real trees and artificial trees, but each have pros and cons. Real trees diffuse a lovely evergreen scent, but require care to ensure that floors and carpets don’t suffer water damage. If you have pets, as many on our team do, you may want to opt for an artificial tree and avoid the hazards of bringing the outdoors inside!
Scale Your Tree to Your Space
As for tree size, make sure that your tree scales to the size of the room and your home. If you have a large and spacious great room – go for it with a large statement tree! If you have high ceilings and a smaller space, a column tree works well – like this charming child’s tree that works perfectly in this bedroom corner.
Placing Your Holiday Tree
For a larger tree, the experts at Design Connection, Inc. suggest placing your tree either by a window, or in a corner near your fireplace. This tree is stunning! The window placement shows off the clever mix of ribbons in black and white stripes, polka dots and black and red buffalo checks.
Tabletop Trees: Small Space, Big Impact
A small tree placed on a buffet or table creates a focal point for the room, while requiring minimal space. Small trees with twinkling lights, placed throughout your house or apartment, are magical!
These trees are formed from art papers and put a modern twist on tabletop trees. Best of all, they easy to assemble, and add a festive, contemporary vibe to a small space.
Mantel Décor: Theme or Color Scheme?
The Design Connection, Inc. team agrees: whether traditional or contemporary, whatever your scheme or theme, choose what you love in your holiday decor. A color scheme in red, green and gold is always warm and inviting. This mantel goes to the max with a traditional red color scheme and nutcracker motif.
A modern, unexpected color palette may be more your style. This “Blue Christmas” theme pops in a room of cream and oatmeal textures!
There’s nothing more cozy than a red and white holiday mantel. This pine cone wreath was painted gray, sprayed with snow and graced with red cardinals and ornament accents. White stockings on the white mantel finish off this simple and effective look!
