As 2020 comes to a close, Thanksgiving will be like no other, during this year like no other. However you plan to spend time safely with family – in person or on videoconference –  an attractive table lifts everyone’s spirits and sets the mood for appreciating what we have.

In this blog, the Design Connection, Inc. team shares their favorite blog and Pinterest picks for your holiday gathering, whether you’re preparing dinner for two or a table for more.

Traditional Elegance

After months of distancing and informal dining, maybe it’s time bring out the silver, glasses and heirloom china. If that’s your plan, this gorgeous centerpiece sets the tone! The primary florals are seeded eucalyptus and white roses, and the arrangement only takes about 20 minutes to make – see the instructions here. White pumpkins and votive candle accents complete this traditional table.

Salad plates in a colorful pattern are an easy and effective way to add a bright touch to a formal table. I love these chinoiserie plates – they pop against traditional white porcelain dinner plates and a navy tablecloth. So polished!

Simply Special

Your Thanksgiving table doesn’t have to be complicated to be attractive. Start with a burlap or hemp table runner and arrange greens, pinecones and pumpkins around plain while pillars. Small touches – like plain white napkins tied with twine and a sprig or rosemary – are a thoughtful and charming touch.

A literal note of gratitude puts everyone in a spirit of appreciation. Add a slim pencil and brown paper note card for guests to record what they are thankful for, and have everyone share their notes during dessert.

Clever and Kid-Friendly

If your celebration includes children, engage them in helping to make table decorations. I’m fascinated by these painted acorns from Home Stories A to Z!  All you need is a few young helpers to gather the acorns. Select acrylic paints in a variety of colors, and give the acorns a one-coat wash. Surprisingly easy and lovely on the table!

Painted Pumpkins

Miniature pumpkins in their natural state are a thanksgiving staple – but why not take them up a notch? Select acrylic paints that coordinate with your table décor, and mix painted and natural pumpkins for a burst of color. These look especially cheery stacked in a lantern or layered in glass containers. See more instructions at It All Started with Paint.

A quick trip to the craft store and market is all you need for this all-ages decorating activity! Create a freehand design, or use stencils to create an overall pattern.

Modern Chic

Thankful and grateful, citified! These gold-rimmed salad plates from William Sonoma say it all. Napkins with a simple linen stripe, laid between the dinner and salad plates, add to the feeling of effortless chic.

A wow factor table from the Cooking Channel! The white tablecloth and place settings create a perfect backdrop for the deep burgundy centerpieces. Florals in a single seasonal color, including back calla lily and sedum purple emperor, are the dramatic focal point of this table. Geometric white plates and sliver napkins add modern appeal for a modern Thanksgiving meal!

However you choose to spend the holiday, and whomever you spend it with, we wish you and your family and friends a safe and happy Thanksgiving celebration.
