Well-chosen pendant lighting, scaled for the size of a kitchen island, creates a perfect pairing.

In this blog post, the Design Connection, Inc. team highlights some of the stunning lighting and kitchen island pairings we have created for our clients’ homes. Take a look!

Space and Splendor

Our client’s extended-length, two-tier bar shines with style. The silvered variegations in these mercury glass pendants make them shimmer when lit. We spaced four pendants across the length of the bar, which suits its proportions without overwhelming the kitchen. A perfect pairing for a splendid space!

Design Tip: Scale the size and number of pendants to the dimensions of your bar or island. Three or four fixtures can be a better choice than one or two large fixtures.

Lorford Large Smoke Bell Lantern – Visual Comfort

Elevated Elegance

Like statement jewelry, statement pendants add a bold, artful touch. This kitchen already has expansive details, such as the tile back splash and the oversized range hood. To balance these proportions, we chose three gorgeous oversized pendants.

Design Tip: As a general rule, bigger is better when it comes to pendant lighting.

Robinson Large Pendant – Visual Comfort

Classic and Timeless

Our homeowners wanted a classic look for their kitchen remodel.  Their angular island  faces into the great room, and these simple, smaller-scale pendants blend well with the the open floor plan. The tailored, gold tone finish allows the backsplash and range hood to take center stage. These lovely pendants are a classic addition that will stand the test of time!

Design tip: For a timeless look, select a pendant in a simple shape with clean lines.

Easterly Small Pendant – Visual Comfort

Textured and Tasteful

An uninterrupted line of sight is a must-have in order to  showcase the beautiful cabinetry and backsplash of this kitchen remodel. These gorgeous cube-shaped fixtures are a perfect fit for this space!  Textured glass and minimal chrome finishes enhance the light over the island without taking the spotlight away from the cabinetry.

Design Tip: Choose simple glass fixtures with minimal finishes to preserve lines of sight.

The Jewel in the Room

This home has traditional details, such as wide floor and crown moldings. To keep the classic feel of the house, we selected pendants that became pieces of jewelry for the space. They scaled well with the smaller size of the island, and our client loved the way the silver finish wrapped the frosted glass pendants like bracelets.

Design Tip: In a traditional home, think about pendant lighting as jewelry for the space.

More Pendants We Love

The Design Connection, Inc. team has curated a mini-gallery of additional pendant favorites from Wilson, one our lighting suppliers. More inspiration ahead!

Ardor Gold by Metropolitan -Wilson

Very fun and contemporary! Because the fixture is not fully enclosed, this well-designed and durable piece casts ample, diffused light.

Bronze by Mariana from the Jupiter Collection – Wilson

For homes that have bronze finishes throughout, this pendant is a contemporary option to update a kitchen island. It effortlessly blends a classic bronze finish with a modern shape and design.

Gold Leaf by Corbett Lighting from the Vertigo Collection – Wilson

Contemporary and flamboyant, this hand-crafted iron pendant is finished in gold leaf. The inside glass is frosted white, and casts a soft and diffused glow. For a space with flair, this will definitely be the focal point!

Matte White Antique Gold by Crystorama from the Alston Collection – Wilson

This pendant combines a white exterior and classic drum shade with a contemporary gold lining.  Sleek and sophisticated over a kitchen island, it provides a light source for both ambiance and meal preparation. The white exterior blends into surrounding space to provide a complementary accent.
